A place with centenary touristic tradition, rich cultural inheritance and untouched nature is primary known because of its gravelled beach 1800 m long. Beach is especially favourable for little children. Sea temperatures are high enough for swimming during five season's months, from May to September. Croatia is famous of its numerous islands spilled as jewels around the Adriatic sea. The biggest one - island of Krk - is situated in the Adriatic bay and by bridge connected with dry land.The whole island is extremely strong touristic destination thanks to moderate climate, rich vegetation and good road connections. But, the most visited and the most beautiful place on Krk is Baska which, with its centenary touristic tradition, hold the first position in the island's tourism.  Our town is situated in the south-east coast of the island of Krk, in an spacious valley surrounded with hills and crystal clear sea. Unique landscape completes the old part of town with numerous little streets and miniature stores, characteristic for the mediteranean architecture of the past centuries.But, Baska is the most famous for its 1800 m long gravelled natural beach, favourable as for swimmers so for kids and non-swimmers. «Vela plaža» is situated in the city center and surrounded with numerous restaurants, caffe bars, stores and other contents. From 1999. there is streaming a «Blue flag», as the proof of a high sea and beach quality. Except the big beach in the city center, town is surrounded with about thirty little gravelled beaches which can be reached by foot or by boat. Of the cultural monuments, we can mention the church of st. Lucija in Jurandvor where was found the famous "Bascanska ploca" - the oldest Croatian monument written in glagolitic alphabet, and ruins of the old city Corinthia, in the bay of Vela luka. Baska is also known for its beautiful views from the hills that surround it and on which is possible to arrive from 70 km of alpinistic paths. If You are a lover of nature, in Baska you can play tennis, minigolf, football, drive a bicycle, surf or simply do a jogging near the sea. Divers can enjoy in the secrets of submarine space, organized by the diving schools or independently. During the touristic season, there are many organized excursions with boat or bus . |
